Cottonwood Police Department Patrol Division

The patrol division is led by the Patrol Commander with the assistance of five patrol sergeants. Nineteen patrol officers carry out the basic functions of the Police Department which include protection of life and property, maintenance of public order, prevention of Police carcrime, response to emergency situations, arresting violators of the law, and the proper enforcement of all laws and ordinances. The patrol division responds to calls for police service 24 hours per day, seven days per week, performing continuous patrols, both to deter crime and to detect, apprehend, and process persons involved in criminal activity.

The patrol division officers engage in aggressive patrol and crime prevention. They conduct complete investigations of most crimes and the preliminary investigation of others, which are then referred to the detective division. Patrol officers are also called upon to respond to mutual aid requests from other public safety agencies within the Verde Valley. In addition to their daily duties, Patrol Division personnel perform a variety of specialty functions which contributes to the overall mission effectiveness of the department.

The Patrol Division has officers assigned to special duty assignments to better meet the needs of the community.

There are two motor officers whose primary responsibilities include traffic enforcement, accident investigations and public education in issues of traffic safety and DUI interdiction and abatement.

There are two K-9 officers with dual trained dog able to conduct building searches and detect drugs. They are actively involved in our drug enforcement efforts as well as public education.

We also have 2 officers assigned to local schools; one on the Cottonwood Middle School campus and the other on the Mingus Union High School campus. Both act as a resource for administration, teachers and students. They each are involved in classroom instruction.
